This on is a like-new PRO horn from one of the most iconic American Makers Pro saxophones. It has the same pivot screws that are secured with little grub screws like its predecessors. This two-tone or nickel plated key work was a more expensive and durable alternative to full lacquer, found on model's like the Gold Medal series some early Rev.Corns. This new case was modified and accommodates this saxophone perfectly keeping it protected very well.

This plating has reacted to something in the decades of storage and is slightly dull places particularly right hand lower stack bell keys. SML considered the nickel plating as Thebes premium finish. It also looks very slick with its black faux leather and brass accent hardware handle feet not only the long side but also on short sides. All springs were inspected and adjusted ascended found like new needing no replacements.

Intonation was founded be very good as long a suitable mouthpiece used. I purchased a new case as the old was not suitable. It doesn mean it isn out there. But modern mouthpieces such as the MEYERS Medium Chamber Mouth piece worked very well for both response and intonation.

I could go on but invite you to examine all the pictures that support my statements above. That it sat for decades waiting to be restored and being made available you is a lucky thing walked into. Superior to the less durable lacquer finish. On the inside the cheapo felt lining was replaced with dark blew crushed velvet which looks stunning in contrast to gold and silver body of horn.

Viewed from a few feet away this saxophone LOOKS like brand-new instrument. I am asking what think is a fair price considering the original cost of purchasing this horn, new pads not cheap, case and all the work to restore saxophone modifications. CONN 6M ALTO SAXOPHONE SERIAL #: C71 044 YEAR OF MANUFACTURE: 1964, This Conn Alto Saxophone is a rather rare find. It has the great advantage to have a near perfect original gold lacquer finish.

Saxophone was play-tested and its response it fantastic in all registers including the elitism range. For me the choice between a new student horn and this horns clear. Body was cleaned inside and outside the lacquer of the body protected with Moil which is highest quality lacquer Protestant I could find. All silencing materials felts and corks etc were replaced with Music Medic Tech Cork from MUSICMEDIC.

This fact is well documented with SML Pro Horns. No rolled tone holes available in earlier editions of this 6M design. There are NO signs of wear at the usual spots such as around neck strap ring, thumb-rest, or bell bow. The NECK to body double socket Connection is super tight and you don't even need tighten the screw produce a totally airtight seal.

Neck to body double socket neck was tested and found leak free which is a must for any saxophone play right. ART DECO type engraving is sharp and perfect. It has the same cool under slung octave mechanism. A perfect addition to any collectors that pride themselves have one of each Conn's Pro Horns.

Taken well care of this saxophone has the potential to be a like new looking for decades come. I researched the relative finish quality when restored nickel plated SML Gold Medal Horn. POINTS REDUCING ITS STATUS COMPARED TO EARLIER model's VARIATIONS IN THE 6M SERIES. So how does this relatively late issued 6M Conn Alto Saxophone compare with its earlier famed predecessors of series.

A new Yamaha student horn made in Indonesia costs you nearly double what I am asking. All tone holes were inspected and flatted when needed. There was little but a few keys needed proper fitting. These horns are players horns and a like new one like this one simple exist only in very low numbers.

Visible on close up inspection and not visible or noticeable from a few feet away. SML saxophones are known for quality and some were produced with nickel plated keys as adoption, often in two-tone finish lacquered brass body. The gold lacquer finish is near impeccable only a few spots show wear where the horn was touching case such as wire cage of low C and solder flux contamination on bow. They all have wear and tear carry the sighs of being decades old.

This wasn't the case when this horn was produced. The ONLY wear and tear this horn shows is contamination of the nickel plating on some keys. It has the same wire cage construction like allots predecessors. Brand-new custom case that was modified to firths horn snug looks like new.

Any lateral or axial play was removed from the key work. Perfect sealing neck to body double socket Connection. No mystic qualities usually attributed to there-war or transitional model's. As mentioned earlier some of the lower stack keys have a haze on their nickel plating I was not able to remove or improve upon short having keys stripped and new applied.

Nickel plated key work installed on PRO Horns was considered as the PREMIER FINISH option for these horns. These are however clearly manufacturing / storage issues NOT wear and tear. No micro tuner neck that is common with all earlier model's. Large chamber vintage mouthpieces didn do well.

Key work was polished and cleaned protected with Renaissance wax. From what I can tell this saxophone Hans't been ever used and sat in a case for the past decades. This saxophone literally looks and plays like new I dare say with the pads key work adjustments the high quality adjustment materials from MUSIC MEDIC makes this horn a better horn than day it left factory floor. Can be played in tune with modern mouthpieces such as the Meyers Medium Chamber PCs which I used to test play this horn.

A note of relative importance. I never much researched it with the CONN Pro Horns of same time period but across relating data and research from done into SML chichis very well documented. And that is NOT a pro horn. No dings, dents or body work done.

So I assume my above reasoning for the finishing choice CONN provided to be accurate enough. It has nickel plated key work with is far more durable than its predecessors lacquered keyword. The entire horn was of course disassembled and there NO corrosion found on any rods or pivot screws and all old oil was replaced with the MUSIC MEDIC Synthetic key.
